BIOGRAPHY

NORWEGIAN SOPRANO Synne Vinje received her education from the Stockholm University of the Arts’ Opera department (Operahögskolan) and the Norwegian Academy of Music. During the coarse of her studies, she was an intern at the Royal Swedish Opera, where she in 2020 made her professional debut with a jump-in as Paggio in Sophia Jupither’s production of Rigoletto by Guiseppe Verdi.

GRADUATING from her Bachelor’s studies (2021), she performed as Mimì in La Bohème by Puccini, and from her Master’s studies (2022) as Angelica in Suor Angelica by Puccini. Her Master studies also included studying and performing parts of Tatiana in Eugen Oneign by Tchaikovsky.

SINCE HER GRADUATION Synne has made several role debuts on stages both in Sweden and internationally. Among these are Cio-Cio san (Madama Butterfly by Puccini), Cizí kněžna (Rusalka by Dvorák), Marguerite (Faust by Gounod), Silvia (Zanetto by Mascagni), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) and Musetta (La Bohème by Puccini). In the summer of 2025, Synne is making her debut with Liza (The Queen of Spades by Tchaikovsky) together with Kamraterna Opera in Stockholm.

CLASSICAL MUSIC FESTIVALS such as Dala-Floda Operafest 2022, Roslagen’s Summer Opera - Opera at Österbybruk 2022 & 2024, Kokkola Opera Festival 2023, Vattnäs Chamber Music Festival 2023 and Oslo Opera Festival 2022, 2023 & 2024 have been important parts of Synne’s early years as a professional opera singer. Stages like Stockholm Concert House, the Royal Academy of Music (Musikaliska), Confidencen Ulriksdal Castle Theatre, Eric Ericssonhallen, Gripsholm Castle, Gripsnäs Castle, Oslo Cathedral and Gamle Logen are among the stages on which she has performed as a soloist.

AS A CONCERT AND ORATORIO SINGER, Synne has a repertoire of great span. Norwegian song cycles such as The Mountain Maiden (Haugtussa), Peer Gynt and the Vinje-songs by Edvard Grieg are close to her heart. In the summer of 2024 she performed Vier letzte Lieder by Richard Strauss, together with pianist Jarosław Kaliski. Synne also frequents as a soloist in sacral music, where Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem is one of her favourite pieces to perform. Other soprano solos from sacral pieces on her repertoire are among others God in Disguise by Lars-Erik Larsson, Mozart’s Requiem and spring 2025 she debuted as Gabriel (and Eve) in Die Schöpfung by Haydn.

SYNNE’S VOCAL TEACHERS and mentors are Royal Court Singers Lena Nordin and Karl-Magnus Fredriksson. Over the years, she has been fortunate to be instructed by many skilled artists such as Asmik Grigorian, Richard Hetherington, Bo Skovhus, Jarosław Kaliski, Barbara Bonney, Yngve Søberg, Barbro Marklund, Ulrika Tenstam and Susanna Eken.

- REVIEWS -

But it’s actually the women of the ensemble who shine the brightest. Soprano Synne Vinje, as Liza in a patent leather corset and lace stockings,
seems capable of blowing anyone’s mind with her voice — so it’s hardly surprising that Herman falls madly and hopelessly in love with her.”

- Cecilia Djurberg, Aftonbladet, 17.06.2025

“Equally fragile is the fashion-forward Liza,
trapped in her black patent leather corset by the gazes and expectations of those around her.
Herman, dressed in black leather, might just be her liberator.”
- Camilla Lundberg, Dagens Nyheter, 17.06.2025

“But they can sing — Synne Vinje’s Liza has a cutting edge to her voice and a strong presence on stage.”
- Claes Wahlin, Tidskriften Opera, 17.06.2025

“But when Synne Vinje’s TikTok-esque Liza sings lines like that, and Fredrik Hagerberg’s Herman is ‘tired to death, the melodrama feels entirely contemporary.”
- Camilla Lundberg, Dagens Nyheter, 17.06.2025

“Vocally, there is no trace of intimacy aboard the Galeasen. The four excellent singers perform with full-blown Tchaikovsky flair, and the two musicians manage to draw out rich drama using only piano and strings.”
- Camilla Lundberg, Dagens Nyheter, 17.06.2025

“Synne Vinje, in the role of Lisa, has a confident richness in her voice and is a singer I look forward to seeing more of in the future.”
- Loretto Villalobos, Svenska Dagbladet, 18.06.2025

“The crystal-clear voice of Synne Vinje fills every cubic centimeter of the rustic Ånghammaren.
The Norwegian rising star charges
Madama Butterfly’s most famous aria “Un bel dì vedremo” with emotions so powerful,
it’s impossible not to feel shivers throughout the body.”
- Göran Sterner, Upsala Nya Tidning, 04.07.2024

“Soprano Synne Vinje as Cio-Cio-san has a rich maturity to her voice.”
- Loretto Villalobos, Tidskriften Opera, 16.07.2024

“Synne Vinje has a really beautiful
voice, for which the role of Silvia seemed to fit brilliantly.”
- Kulttuurijournalismia merenpohjalta, 21.11.2023

“Synne Vinje has a soprano voice that spans from dark ebony to bright brilliance, suitable for the lyric dramatic opera roles.”
- The Scholarship Committee, Stockholm Uniarts

“Synne Vinje /.../ with a voice like a mountain stream and a storm on the Northern Sea.”
- Vattnäs Konsertlada, 05.07.2023

“For
Edvard Grieg the Norwegian folk music was omnipresent
and in particular in the eight songs to texts from Arne Garborg’s cyclic Haugtussa.
Norwegian soprano Synne Vinje had selected five of them and sang them with poetic warmth as well as erotic glow,
well nuanced.”
- Seen and Heard International, 25.07.2023

Musetta is the free-spirited, light-footed female character in 'La Bohéme'
and she has an aria that quite easily sticks in the memory.
Synne Vinje portrays her with bravura, as she mixes wit and sharp humour with empathy and loyalty
...a convincing role interpretation and the aria in the second act is superb!”
- Dala-Demokraten, 01.08.2022

“As to the singing /.../ Synne Vinje was a stylish
Musetta.”
- Seen and Heard International, 03.08.2022

“Synne Vinje's
Angelica is as bright as her aunt is somber and ominous,
an angel in a nun's robe who turns sorrow into love - gripping and convincing.”
- Gefle Dagblad, 11.06.2022
